it looks like the moment you snapped this he became aware of your presence, making this frame alot more interesting to look at, but i'm guessing you were shooting (tele-lensed) from a 20 to 30 foot range with a daylight set shutter speed, and the speed that they were moving at could'nt balance a proper DOF..

a brilliant natural shot nonetheless... a fAV!!
